New York | Brooklyn Bridge

No trip to the big apple is complete without a walk across the most famous bridge in the world, the Brooklyn Bridge. Like a typical tourist, I bloody love it!! We'd walked down to the Statue of Liberty view point before heading over the bridge and our feet were tired, but we headed into Brooklyn none the less.

We had high hopes of hunting down Target but found out it was two trains away on the Subway so that idea went out the window pretty quickly. Next time America, next time. So we headed down towards Janes Carousel and had a nose in the shops at the foot of the bridge while we waited for sunset.

Sunday

On Sunday we got up early with the forecast showing a sunny day and headed over to my Nan's to keep her company for a couple of hours before going for a walk. We originally planned to go to the beach, but it seemed every bugger and their brother had the same idea so we decided not to waste the day sat in traffic and went down to Topsham for a mooch along the estuary.

We parked up by the cycle path to Exmouth and wandered along the path, nosing through the peepholes with the hope of seeing some wildlife, we saw some Avocets and that was about it so we mainly enjoyed the sunshine and took some silly selfies.

We headed home after our walk for some homemade soup, a whole lot of house work, a bit of baking and then pigging out on some sausage rolls I whipped up while dinner cooked, they were scrummy!!

Hope you all had a great weekend.

New York | Hells Kitchen Flea Market

Something I really wanted to do in New York was look around thrift stores and flea markets, well I failed big time at this apart from going to Hells Kitchen Flea Market, which is on every weekend, weather permitting, and is free. It also turns out that hardly anyone turns up to sell when it's zero degrees and keeps trying to snow, but we nosed at what was there none the less.

If I'd been able to get it home I definitely would have bought this record player, the colour and style are so awesome!!

I was hoping to find some vintage pyrex or the like but there were slim pickings so I left empty handed. I wouldn't have minded a few dozen vintage baubles too, those colours!!

Wednesday wish list #88

Sorry the layout keeps changing, since I got a new laptop it's taken a bit of time to get used to new software and settle on the right sizes. I'm a bit late to the polyvore party but it's going to make it a lot easier to share my wednesday wish list post.

New York | Day Two

On our second day in the Big Apple we woke up slightly more refreshed after a good sleep, there's nothing quite like being awake for 44 hours to make you sleep well. The first stop for the day was at the Westway Diner, easily my favourite diner ever. The food is just so good, the pancakes and waffles are out of this world.

We headed back up to the hotel via the Flat Iron building, one of my favourite buildings in the city and always the least busy. It's one of those buildings that would be so amazing to live in, totally unique and amazing views of the Empire State, what more could you want?

We then headed back to the hotel to put our feet up for half an our before heading out for a quick bite of food and seeing Billy frickin' Joel!!

New York | Day One

Well after nine months of waiting I finally went on my little holiday to New York, so if you're not a fan of this fine city you may want to avoid my blog for a few weeks. We booked a deal through Expedia for 4 nights/5 days staying at the Doubletree by Hilton Times Square South, which was the perfect location for us, slap bang in the middle of Times Square and Madison Square Garden/Penn Station.

We got the 8.20am flight into Newark, which meant we arrived at midday local time, thank you time difference!! We'd never flown to Newark before and it was a lot quieter than JFK, we were in Manhattan within an hour of getting off the plane and jumping on the train to Penn Station. We checked into the hotel, dumped our bags and took our tired backsides off for a wander around, where I pretty much squealed with excitement the whole time.

Our first stop was Times Square, it was heaving but just as fabulous as I remembered. We mooched around some shops, bought coffees and sat on Alicia Keys red stairs, people watching and laughing at the facial expressions of people with selfie sticks.

We didn't venture too far away as we were meeting up with my Dad, his girlfriend and some family friends for an early dinner at Brendans Grill Bar, which I definitely recommend. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the decor and food were both top notch.
