Lately...

I can't believe the summer is almost over, you can definitely feel autumn in the air already and the nights are drawing in (my least favourite thing about winter). While we've been pretty lucky with the weather I've tried to get out and about as much as possible, whether it's a ride on Claudia or visiting family. It's been a stressful couple of weeks with a health scare in the family, thankfully it was only a scare, and then Rich kindly have me his head cold so I've been feeling rubbish and not wanting to do much other than snooze, knit and lie on the sofa with cups of tea.
We spent a lovely afternoon with my Nan last weekend. She doesn't like to leave her house anymore so we opened up the french doors, had a stroll around the garden, picked apples and sat in the sun room for a couple of hours just watching the birds and the bees. When my Grandad was alive the entire far end of the garden was kept as an allotment, he grew everything you could think of; potatoes, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, logenberries, redcurrents, blackcurrents, tomatoes, broad beans, runner beans, apples, pears, plums, you name it, he grew it. In the school holidays my Mum would bring us in to help pick the fruit and veg, nothing tasted better than his summer fruits and some runny cream. His pears were his pride and joy, and if you'd tasted them you'd know why.
There's also a photo of Lilly Dog, she's taken to sleeping between my legs lately, very cute but so uncomfortable.

We've also been dragging our backsides out of bed and going to the car boot every couple of weeks, not too often because I like my Sunday lie ins too much, but if we're awake early we throw some clothes on and go rummage with the best of em. I found some amazing Hornsea pieces (below) and bagged the whole lot for £15, pretty good I think seeing as the jars are £15 each in vintage shops. And having a lovely friend working in the new RSPCA shop is definitely awesome, Joe showed me this 1960s pillowcase that had just come in so obviously I nabbed it. I think it'll become a cushion, or possibly part of my patchwork quilt, when I eventually collect enough fabric to make it that is.

Remember a few weeks ago I mentioned that Rich and I were going to Amsterdam? Well time has flown by and we're off on our holidays tomorrow. A nice 3 am start to get our flight from Bristol. I can't wait to explore and cycle round a new city. Things may be quiet on the blog front, although we have wifi at the hotel so I'll try and remember my Wednesday Wish List, so enjoy the break because they'll be SO many photos when I get back.

Hope you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend.

Day Trippin' #15 Weston Super Mare

A couple of weekends ago Rich and I made our annual trip to Weston Super Mare so his grandparents could visit their friend, Herman. If you want to catch up on the story of how our trips have come about, you can recap here. Anyway, unlike last year we weren't so lucky with the weather and I can only describe it as your stereotypical British summer at the seaside. It rained, was cold and Weston was full of northerners on their holidays. We had a few hours to kill so headed into town, mooched around the charity shops, I bagged a vintage midi skirt, grabbed some lunch, walked around one of the worst 'vintage' markets I've ever been too (seriously, about 75% of it was brand new mass produced handbags), before the obligitory trip to the pier and amusements. Sadly we didn't win anything this time, it was so busy we didn't stick around too long. I did manage to persuade Rich to go on 'Shocker', a ride that is meant to feel like you're in an electric chair where you hold on for as long as possible until the shock becomes unbareable, it was the best £1 I've ever spent haha! There is a video on my Instagram if you want to check it out, the reason the camera is shaking is because I was shaking with laughter!

When we went back to Herman's to pick up Rich's grandparents we took the annual group photographs. Herman is on the left, Rich's Nan is in the middle and his Grandad is on the right. This year marked Herman's 90th birthday, and as always I wanted to bring him home with me, I can't stand the thought of old people being alone! Until next year Herman....

Day Trippin' #14 Devon Dub Fest

Well it seems like a while since I've written one of these posts. Don't worry though, I have been out and about but since Rich busted his ankle playing football (no good can come from football), we haven't been out for many day trips or bike rides, sobs! On Saturday however I dragged him around Devon Dub Fest at Bicton. I really wanted to go last year but the lack of pennies made the £10 ticket fee a bit too difficult to justify. This year however there was no way I was going to miss it, even with the rain and thunderstorms!

It was the first VW show I'd been to, after hearing great stories and seeing awesome purchases that my big Sis had made at various shows over the years I really really wanted to go. Devon Dub Fest seemed like the best choice as it was so close so even though the tickets were pretty pricey we didn't have to pay loads to get there, winner! The show itself was a lot smaller than I was expecting, apparently the turn out of VW's wasn't as good as last years but I was in my element none the less. There were a few traders, my favourite being a lovely lady from Ottery selling handmade cushions from vintage fabrics, I will share a photo of my new 'driving cushion' as soon as I remember to take one in my car, it's a beaut though! Unfortunately a lot of the stalls seemed to belong at a car boot rather than a car show so we avoided them unless we needed shelter from the rain (oops).

As the rain kept coming the amount of photos I took was pretty limited *sobs*, but I will have some from my film cameras once I've had them developed. For now though here are a selection of photos from the show. I completely fell in love with the soft top Beetle, it's beautiful, and the teal splitty, oh and the red Beetle, and the blue bay, sod it, I want them ALL!!!!

Thanks for stopping by.
