Day trippin' #13 An Exe'pedition

On those rare days that we've had some proper summer weather, Rich & I have taken every opportunity possible to get out and enjoy it, usually on our bikes! One of the perks of living by the Quay is having miles and miles of flat cycle paths to explore, with a pub every couple of miles to stop for a nice cold beverage.
A couple of times now we've ventured to The Turf Hotel at the mouth of the river Exe, stopping along the way to take in any of natures of gems that we happen to come across. In true spring fashion, there were baby creatures aplenty, some of which were more photogenic than others. My favourites by far have been the Cygnets, floating along in all their feathery glory and their protective parents at their side. We also happened to come across a grass snake, even though Rich and I aren't their biggest fans we had a good look before it slithered off into the undergrowth once more.

It's just as well these guys wore their high vis jackets on this beautifully sunny day or we may
not have seen them!

If you cross the Exe you can stop off at my favourite place in Devon, Topsham! If you want cute cafes, 10 pubs, charity shops and lots of wildlife it's the place to be. No visit would be complete without a picnic, spot the edited photo of the cat coming out of the river, ha! As a big bargain hunter I was so so happy to have found this sewing box in the antiques shop for £15, a bargain and still has some of the previous owners haberdashery treats, a win win for me.

I'm thinking of starting a new regular feature about our bicycle adventures, hopefully they won't bore you too much and I'll try and get some horrendously funny photos to throw in too!

It's Boss time!

On Saturday the Ginn family plus the men of the families girlfriends set off to London to see the Boss aka Bruce Springsteen! We may not spend a lot of time together, but you can be sure as hell that if there's a good gig to go to we'll all be there and this was no exception. Needless to say Springsteen didn't disappoint, with a 3 and a half hour set, a lot of dancing, a few very VERY lucky people from the crowd being pulled up on stage, and the infamous bum wiggle it was just amazing! This was the 3rd time I've seen him and he just gets better and better, his presence and energy on stage is jaw dropping. Although Bruce is a god, what makes the gig even better is the E Street Band, arguably the best band ever! They just have the ability to get the crowd going, dancing, ass shaking, and grinning from ear to ear. Obviously it isn't the same without Big Man Clarence Clemons, but his nephew Jake is doing a great job at taking over the job as the sax player, plus that 'fro is just amazing! I took a ton of photos but have narrowed it down to try not to bore you to death, here are a few of the best ones..

This guy was just amazing, he ran around dancing for the crowd for the whole 3 and a half hours.

If you get the chance to see Springsteen go, and take me with you! We're already looking forward to our next family gig outing, Billy Joel in November!

Thanks for popping by.

Happy Fathers Day Dad

I'd like to wish my wonderful Dad a very happy fathers day. It takes a great man to bring us lot up, especially single handedly over recent years and he's done an amazing job! We may not have been able to spend today with him, but we more than made up for it by seeing Springsteen yesterday.

Happy fathers Dad, you're a bloody legend and I love you!

A family gathering

A couple of weeks ago something pretty lovely happened, we had a family gathering. For my family this is quite a big deal, sadly the only time we're usually all in the same place is for a funeral so this was a nice change. It was a big deal for my Dad especially, he had been looking forward to his Mum coming to see his new home, and as she goes into her 89th year it was important for him that she came up while she is still able. My Nan and Aunt both live in Cornwall so drove up for an afternoon of family time, minus my uncle! It was so lovely to have 4 generations of Ginn's in one place, especially now there is a great grandchild running around. Despite a bit of sibling bickering (my Dad and his big Sis, ha) the day was a big success. We ate, reminisced, took photos, played with tractors and laughed, a lot!

As always here are a few photos from our family day..

My Nan/The Boss/The Legend

I hope this will become a more regular thing, there really is no excuse for not making more effort to see each other.
