Another year older, not a lot wiser!

Hello you lovely folk, I hope you're well. With all these April showers providing a lot of doom and gloom for most, I thought I'd share a post about one of my favourite recent days out. Last month I celebrated my 25th birthday and spent a fair bit of time deciding how I wanted to spend the day. As I seem to be turning into an old lady, I decided to give the standard night on the town a miss, and instead go for a scrummy Sunday carvery with a close group of friends instead - cudos to the Farmers Union in Exeter for yummy food and great value. With most of my friends working in the week, it was a great opportunity for us all to get together and catch up, and who doesn't love a roast potato or 10?

If you know me, you'll know I'm a big lover of all things free/cheap, so I racked my brains for a place to go. Seeing as I'd been nagging Mr Pompa (the boyfriend) about going to the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth since before Christmas, it seemed like the perfect place to visit, and as I had a rare weekday off work, my sister and baby nephew Jack came along as well. So armed with a picnic we set off for a day by the seaside and to see the Donkeys.

As soon as we turned into the car park I was excited by how big it was. There were endless fields, some full and some not so full, of Donkeys and various trails depending on your walking abilities/if you have a pushchair etc. We took one of the easier trails and headed towards the first paddock of Donkeys. There were so many and they were really friendly, as you can see Mr P making friends...
One of my favourite parts of the day was seeing how excited Jack was about the Donkeys. We weren't sure how he would react but he was straight in there stroking, patting and pulling their hair. while giggling the whole time. It was great being able to spend some proper time with Erica and Jack, and for them to spend time with Mr P too. It still amazes me how quickly Jack grows, he's truly amazing.

When we were finally Donkey'd out we decided to head down to Sidmouth sea front for the mandatory ice cream and walk on the beach. If you haven't been before, I insist that you visit 'Taste', it really is the most amazing ice cream shop EVER. Mr P had cherry and I had coffee, the thought of it now makes my mouth water...

So that was my 25th birthday. Next time you're in the Exeter area and stuck for something free to do and very child friendly, head to the Donkey Sanctuary and don't forget the yummy ice cream afterwards.

Bye for now,

Sarah

xx

  2. This brought back memories! My Godmother used to take me to the Donkey Sanctuary when I used to stay during the summer holidays. Love the place! Glad you had a nice day out - and a (very!) belated Happy Birthday to you!
